Here’s to a NEW YEAR of creative inspirations, delightful designs, and a life worth living!
Love, Joann and Kelly
A home is a reflection of the owner(s) and when I walk into a home I can immediately tell if the home has a “story”. Beautiful objects are important in design but equally important are objects that have a memory or a meaning. Here are some great examples!!
How creative to use as “art” in a child’s room. I’m sure all of those shoes accompany great memories (from Real Simple).
These are jars of sand and rocks from a few of Kelly’s travels. They all have special memories and sit on a shelf in her kitchen
Kandrac & Kole are big fans of monograms (MH Linen). It’s a subtle way to make something that is “yours”. We love to add them to pillows, window treatments and throws
Here’s a family portrait we had done last year. I had a large wall I needed to fill but thought this would be too large. I commissioned Jay Scott to use this portrait and photo of the room as inspiration and to give it a contemporary, abstract feel
We strongly believe in celebrating your life through design. What items do you have in your home that reflect “YOU”??
I surprised my husband this Christmas with a portrait of our home. He has worked really hard on remodeling almost 80% of our house and I wanted to honor him with something we could have in our family for years to come.
Here is a “before” of the house when we first purchased it…….
Here is the “after” photo I supplied to Joan Borawski, who is an incredibly talented artist.
Here is the finished product!!!

Even though more time consuming than putting a gift in a re-used gift bag, your extra time and effort in gift wrapping doesn’t go unnoticed. Here are a couple of my favorites from Top Design Mag:
Let your “little one” feel special and let him or her create the gift wrap!!
Great idea to include memorable photos as part of your gift…
This is a fun and creative way to personalize your packaging. A little touch goes a long way!! (hauteapplepie)
A favorite song from a memorable occasion would be a sweet touch!
And finally, my favorite from Jenn Playford of Country Living – Infuse new life into a thrift-store shirt and brooch. Not only is the result eco-friendly, when you remove the brooch and unpin the shirt, you’ve got three gifts in one. Here’s the how to:
Happy Holidays and Happy Wrapping!!
This week I went to our favorite frame shop (Thompsons Frame & Gallery) to frame some Apple “Think Different” posters for a commercial job we are working on. I always like to take a look at what projects have been completed by other customers – you never know what creative ideas you might see!
For example, take a look at this American Flag made from a babies feet. Yes, I will definitely be dunking my little nieces toesies in paint this summer and copying this idea!!
Framing a Christening dress is not uncommon, but this one was really well done. I love the simple dress just neatly pinned on the suede mat.
Designs that Celebrate Life – I love it!
