Antiquing Again….

June 14, 2011

Written By: kelly

Last Friday I finished working on a client project early and felt that magnetic pull down 75S  towards Scott Antique Market. The creative possibilities are endless so I had to share.

I LOVE old doors. I like to hang them on walls, over a mantle on a tall fireplace, or even as a headboard. How great are these?

I really don’t want the folks at PETA coming after me, but I have to say that these African mounts by Acanthus Studios were gorgeous.

I’ve been searching for a bench for my entry foyer for awhile and finally found one! From a Christian church in India, I’m happy it’s now welcoming guests to my home (stay tuned for the killer cushion being made to go on it).

If I was designing a nursery for a baby girl, this would be the instant inspirational focal point. So precious!

What a perfect way to fill a large island or farm table – love these massive succulent arrangements!

I really wanted to buy this bone necklace to go around my beautiful turquoise Buddha in my family room, but I had spent all my cash:(

Think what you could do with these cool carts. In a kitchen to hold potatoes and onions, in a bathroom holding towels, in a studio holding books or magazines – if I had the room, I would have bought one (for $125!).

If I had a boutique that sold jewelry, I would have bought all of these to display necklaces. How about just one on your dresser?

This made me a little sad because I wasn’t sure if it was a memorial or not, but I that the idea was clever.

Anybody up for a trip to the lake? These pillows from Cabin Outfitters in Sandy Springs, GA were so fun!

God I really love that place….  Here’s the event schedule for Scott’s – it’s worth a trip to the ATL!

My Chair Fetish

May 13, 2011

Written By: kelly

Yesterday, I had fun wandering around one of the largest Antique Markets in the country – Scott’s Antique Market right here in Atlanta. Usually I’m so focused on my client sourcing list that I don’t take photos but this time I was there with a short agenda so I was able to take some photos to share.

I realized after I looked back at the photos I took that there was a very obvious trend – I clearly have a chair fetish!!

These chairs repurposed by our talented friend Kemp Hickey of Kemp Designs, were my favorite. Covered in a soft, gorgeous calf hide, they were YUMMY!

I’m a sucker for gracious curvy lines mixed with little bit of rustic burlap….

If these were mine, I’d paint them in all different vibrant colors and cover the seats in white vinyl for a sherbet filled party!

How great would these look in a glamorous living room? I might have to change out that pillow though –  hot pink hide?

Let’s jump back to the 70’s – these were in stellar shape. I’m in love.

Now if you were a small child living in England in the late 1800’s, you could hang out in this sopisticated little chair. Then when it was time to dine, your governess would lift up the chair and screw it into this little table so you could reach the table……

This stool was not only adjustable but super comfortable.

Kemp got these from a camp ground in Indiana. They would look SO GOOD on the porch of my parents boathouse!

I also have a thing for sweet little chairs. I guess because you can stick them anywhere in a room as a conversation piece or to simply welcome a small visitor.

I’m on the hunt for something interesting for my foyer. This one caught my eye. I would definitely replace the cushion with some brightly colored, geometric pattern to add a contemporary flair to this stately beauty.

I love this delicate Hepplewhite beauty. A new fabric and it could be quite a show stopper.

This Italian cutie would have come home with me if I had a place for it. The handle at the top did it for me. Hmm…. what to recover the seat in??

It’s a fun fetish isn’t it?

TA DA!

I’m absolutely ga ga about revitalizing chairs into comfortable, gorgeous little gems.  I’m slowly learning how to squeeze them into all corners of my home.

Here’s my latest creation – I purchased these green velvet chairs at Scott’s Antique Market last year for $35 for the pair (NO LIE)!

I asked my friend Joan to touchup the finish and then gave into my love affair with this Colefax & Fowler fabric  (Jasper, color Taupe).  It has such an amazingly soft hand and the chairs are SO comfortable.

I recovered the chairs as a pair even though I don’t have room to use them as a pair right now. (Yes, my nursing home room will look DAMN good!)

So one of my lovely ladies is adorning my family room,

And the other one is resting in my bedroom.

Movin’ on Up – Part I

May 9, 2010

Written By: kelly

We firmly believe that the economic tides are turning and pent up demand for interior design and other services are going to bust wide open in 2011.  Given this optimistic view for the future, Joann are preparing our infrastructure  to take it all on baby! We’ve hired a Design Assistant, are searching for a qualified summer intern, invested in Studio Webware to help us be more efficient and have now leased office space in an amazing historic building that has been beautifully restored in downtown Acworth, GA. We have leased the entire upstairs (5 offices and 1 conference/work room along with an enormous outdoor balcony) and are now preparing to furnish it (oh darn what a chore…)

So for Part I of “Movin on Up”…. here’s what we are starting out with…….  vintage stained glass windows, old hardwoods, exposed brick…

Conference Room

One of the offices (with a stained glass window of Lake Acworth)

Here’s the party balcony on the backside of the building….

So how should we furnish it? Antiques befitting the time period? Repurposed funky junk? Industrial and functional? We decided on a mix – and where better to start than Scott’s Antique Market in Atlanta. We made some very exciting purchases.

Here’s Joann stroking a check for our conference table…. (Still have to find 8 different chairs to repurpose to accompany this beauty).

Amazing galvanized steel desk tops with salvaged wood bases made to order by Kemp Hickey. Oh yeah, we took 2 of those.

Loooooove this for our library to hold all of our color wheels, wood, tile and fabric samples……

Yummy chairs (so comfortable) to repurpose for the front foyer….

Stay tuned for “Movin’ on Up – Part 2” and watch the design evolution of the new Kandrac & Kole Interior Designs offices unfold…
