Enjoyable Ways to Decorate Outdoors!

April 19, 2017

Written By: joann

I love getting my screened porch and outdoor spaces ready for spring and summer!  In our Atlanta climate, we can usually spend 8 months or so relaxing and entertaining outdoors.

I look forward to getting my seasonal catalogs in the mail and flipping through the gorgeous pages.  One of my favorites is Frontgate!

Kandrac & Kole Interior Designs, Inc. – Atlanta, GA Blog

This quatrefoil motif is so unique and it’s style is unlike any other outdoor furniture.  It’s made of cast aluminum with solution dyed acrylic cushions and is built to stand the test of time.  It is available in a sofa, love seat, side table, lounge chair with cushion (as shown above) and dining chairs.  The collection is also available in this stunning fuschia finish.

Another catalog I covet for outdoor product is Grandin Road.  They are owned by Cornerstone Brands who also owns Frontgate.  Anyone who knows me will attest to the fact that I am obsessed with black and white decor.  I’m thinking I must have these Clara and Audrey Planters!

They totally look like they are ceramic, but instead, they are a fiberglass composite so they resist shattering and have a chip and peel-resistant coating which make them very lightweight and easy to move around.

Another impressive element to decorating outdoors is with patio umbrellas.  Customers can purchase this beauty from Pier 1 Imports .  This fringe and tassel umbrella is known as “tedung” in Balinese dialect which means “to guard”.  From the carved pole to the intricately hand-gilded canopy, each umbrella is one of a kind and takes 10 days to create.

A big trend in outdoor living is the use of string lights.  It adds a special element to a space (as if you’re are at an attractive resort).  I like this globe style from Crate and Barrel.

Outdoor draperies add an aspect of sophistication to an outdoor space as well.   Pottery Barn offers a Sunbrella Grommet drape in several sizes and colors.

We recently added a large screened in porch to our house and it has added so much to our style of living.  It was 6 months in the making and was built from scratch by my husband and his good friend.  The palette is black and white with pops of green! Stay tuned for it to be featured in the August issue of Cottages and Bungalows magazine.

What are FLOR Tiles?

December 1, 2014

Written By: joann

FLOR is an innovative system of carpet squares that you assemble to create custom rugs, runners or wall to wall designs of any shape or size.

Screen Shot 2014-11-16 at 12.31.48 PM

The beautiful thing about FLOR is that the squares connect securely together with FLORdots – no nails, padding or glue.  They can be easily replaced, allowing flexibility and portability along with beauty and remarkable performance.

The creative options are what I also love.  You can create solids, vintage looks, stripes, sisals, graphics, wool and even purchase area rugs created by FLOR.  There is a look for every room.

It is clearly a no-brainer when our clients tell us they would like something beautiful but are wary of expensive carpets because of kids, dogs, and everyday living.  That’s where FLOR is our lifesaver.  I can’t even count how many projects we have used it in.  Here are just a few:

The “lasting greatness” style in red was used at the United Methodist Children’s Home for Room Service Atlanta.  To read more about this project click HERE!

We used a whimsical, color block for this commercial space.  It happens to be the “brand” colors for this client.

And here, a dining room of all places, where lots of spills could happen, we used a solid texture which worked wonderfully for a family with 2 young children.   The other advantage to FLOR is if a really “beyond the normal” mess occurs, we suggest purchasing a few “extra” tiles so they can be swapped out!

Not only is FLOR attractive and functional, the company is very environmentally friendly.  They have a return and recycle program where you can send back your tiles once they have lived their useful life.  This is how it works:  You package up the squares, call FLOR and they will mail you a pre-paid UPS label based on the weight of your package.  The carpet portion is sent to be made into recycled nylon fibers and the backing is shredded into small pellets to create post consumer recycled GlasBac Re backing.

Not only do they care about the environment, they also participate in Carpet for a Cause where they involve themselves in multiple projects to help others.  For one week in November, they are donating one FLOR square for every order placed to donate FLOR rugs to more than 30 classrooms across the country with more donations in the works.

Do you have a favorite charity, organization or school you think could benefit from a FLOR rug donation?  Click for the Carpet for a Cause submission form to be considered!
