My Holiday Table
Several months ago, Content That Works contacted us to contribute to an article entitled Color Your Christmas Classy. The article was about escaping the red-and-green color combination ritual at holiday time and thinking outside the color box. Of course we were full of ideas about how to take items you might already have in your home and create a a glitzy and fun black and white schemed holiday tabletop. Now comes the curse of being a Designer trying to decorate my own home! I am so full of creative ideas and inspirations that I turn into a paralyzed nimrod. Time is of the essence for me to snap out of this mind twist because my family is coming from NY to Atlanta for Christmas this year for the first time in 7 years! So I thought I would share with you my search to create that WOW tabletop that my family expects of me!Idea #1: Incorporate my Inherited Silver Collection onto the Table - I'm very blessed to own a varied and interesting collection of silver passed down to me from various grandparents and great grandparents. How special would it be to infuse memories from past celebrations into this years holiday table? Idea #2: Incorporate my Coastal Roots - I grew up enjoying carefree and blissfully happy summers on the shores of Long Island, NY (where my parents still live). All over my home are memories of the sun, sand and sea so incorporating these mementos would add a special touch as well. Who says I can't fill some of my silver urns with sand and shells? Idea #3 - Celebrate my Love of Color and Texture - Oh please! Give me an excuse to bring fabrics, color and texture onto my holiday table! This is right up my alley. The walls and ceiling in my dining room are painted Sherwin Williams Peacock Plume - this might just work!
Idea #4 - Incorporate some Crafty Gifts and Cool Glassware - Our family holiday tables have always had a small party favor on each plate so I can't forget that! I love the idea of a simple, special ornament made for each person highlighted by the glow and color of these glass plates. They feel vintage to me - hmmm ..... that might mix well with my silver!
Idea #6 - Throw Caution to the Wind and Celebrate one of my Favorite Colors - You know I love purple but a close tie is pink! I love this break from tradition using tulips and gerber daisies but scattering the holiday ornaments and wintery foliage in small pots for a hint of holiday.
I'm feeling some direction now. Thanks for sharing in the creative process with me. I'll update you with images of my final masterpiece!
