Rock-a-Bye Baby Thru the Ages

Kandrac & Kole has been selected to design the nursery for the "Christmas at Callanwolde" Designer Showhouse.   Callanwolde is the magnificent Gothic-Tudor style home completed in 1920 for the Charles Howard Candler family.  Howard Candler, the oldest son of Asa Candler (founder of the Coca-Cola Company), was the President of Coca-Cola from 1916 to 1923.

Callanwolde remained the Candler's home for 39 years. In 1959, two years after Mr. Candler's death, and nine years prior to her own death, Mrs. Candler donated the estate (including many of the original furnishings) to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

It now serves as a non-profit community arts center, offering classes and workshops for all ages in visual, literary and performing arts. Special performances, gallery exhibits, outreach programs and fundraising galas are presented throughout the year.

Being a part of the "Christmas at Callanwolde" is truly an honor.  Our charge is to design this nursery as a re-creation of the 1920's nursery occupied by Mr. Candler's young daughter. Doing research has been pure enjoyment!  It is amazing to see what is new, fashionable and different in nurseries today.

Here is an example of a sweet, floral and embellished crib nursery of times past

Now we see pops of color, functional crib/toddler beds and more!

This "round" crib is very versatile and looks great in the center of a room

This "pumpkin" crib is quite a conversation piece

What is a nursery without a rocker?

How about some funky lighting?

How about a fancy rug to finish it off?

No matter how you look at it, either then or now, we love to make our babies surroundings beautiful!!
