One Room Challenge - Week 5 & 6
Progress Progress!
We are in the home stretch of our podcast studio renovation but not without quite a large OH S&**#$ moment for your reading pleasure. No sweat though - 15 years in the biz has taught us to keep a level head and think creatively! Keep reading:)
We approached one of our favorite brands Woodbridge Furniture for our podcast table and they of course said they would love to participate in the One Room Challenge (the power of strong relationships with our vendors). If you aren’t familiar with Woodbridge, allow us to introduce you!
Woodbridge has a beautiful collection of traditional and transitional wood pieces that can be painted any Sherwin Williams color. We have been able to create some show stopper pieces! We also turn to Woodbridge very often for bar/counter stools and outdoor furniture.
We selected the Helene Breakfast Table (SKU 5079-07) in the Luna finish. The perfect size - 44” round which is a difficult size to find. The finish is gorgeous in person.
From there, we approached another one of our favorite manufacturers, Fairfield Chair who also quickly agreed to partner with us. We use Fairfield a lot for our commercial work - the options are endless.
We wanted (4) comfortable swivel chairs for podcasting, video conferencing, team meetings, and more. We also needed to be able to customize the fabric so a COM option was important. We chose the Tipsy Chair (SKU 1138-31-7). Isn’t she cute? We gave her a little makeover and dressed her up in a chartreuse velvet (the perfect shade for our branding colors) from our sponsor Fabricut. Shout out to the teams at Fairfield and Fabricut who worked seamlessly and quickly to put these chairs into production!!
Now here comes the OOOOPS part….
The table height is 30”. Normal dining/seating seat height is 19”. We chose a chair with a 17” seat height (OOOPS) AND it’s comfy and squishy so when you sit in it, you sink another 1” lower. We are both only 5’2” tall so the table was at chest level. NO GOOD.
Breathe. Think. Jump into Action.
We called our trusted artisan friend Mitch Mitton with Mitton Theme Design to come to our rescue which he quickly did (again the power of relationships). We decided to cut the table down several inches. While the table was in his shop, he also put grommet holes in the table to we can have better wire management (refer to Week #1 Blog to see our previous aesthetic nightmare).
Off came several inches of the legs…..
Then Mitch drilled a hole down the middle of the table so wires could be run thru and out the bottom thru a little hole in the side of the base. Genius!
Then he put everything back together again!
Grommet time! For OCD people like us (especially Kelly) this is a beautiful thing!
The man of the hour! Mitch Mitton with Mitton Theme Design.
Speaking of wire management, we also had to decide how/where to house our podcast sound equipment and laptop. Previously, all the equipment had been on the table right beside us and we were always moving wires out of the way. We decided to call our partners at Currey & Company. We rarely do a job where Currey product isn’t included - lighting, furniture and accessories!
We chose the Thea Credenza. We love everything about this piece - 62”wide x 34”h x 19”d - the perfect size for so many locations - a foyer, a bedroom, an office…. Look how neat and organized we are now!
Stay tuned for next week when we share how we draped our podcast studio in beautiful fabrics for sound absorbency, figured out a cool way to put our logo on the wall, and some other great touches!
