Answering Your Design Dilemmas

1. INTRO

Happy 50th episode! WOW! That was a quick 50. To celebrate, we are responding to our listeners and answering your design dilemma questions again. This is always a popular episode. We reached out via various social media platforms and received great questions for Episode 50 so let’s get started.

Question #1: Kathy Cousart, Athens, GA

How can I as an Artist better connect and help the Designers/Homeowners understand the impact that a beautiful piece of art can have in a space?   It can pull it all together if done correctly with a designer in that stage where it’s all being picked and collaborated.   Love to work with others and collaborate to get just that special painting.

Question #2: Nancy Prochaska, Atlanta, GA

I have a two-story foyer with a large window at the top.  I have some bright colored fabric sashes at the top of this window, in order to give it some color.  But I am wondering if that look is “dated.”  What the current trend for these windows?   Our house is 30 years old.

Question #3: Jenna Henderson, Calhoun, GA

I just built a farmhouse.  We have a very large foyer and I purchased a long rustic natural wood console (90”?).  It has glass sliding doors along the front.  I have already hung a very large framed picture of a barn/landscape above it which I love.  I would like to know what would be the best way to accessorize the top of the console and the inside.  I do NOT want to “junk it up” with small trinkets.  I need ideas of large items to fill all the space.  Can you help me with some ideas?

Question #4: Dina Pember, Auburn, AL

How can I have a beautiful bed if I have four dogs? Seriously?!

How do I add color to a room while still accomplishing a “clean and simple” feel?

Do you think the shiplap look will be a trend or stay classic?

Question #5: Elizabeth Donnarumma, Vero Beach, FL

I want to paint the front door of my house a bright color…if the front door and mud room door of my home are both in the front of the house do I paint the front door only with color or both doors same bright color?

Question #6: Do you think a runner up a stairway looks more “finished” than just bare wooden steps? Torn between the two…

Question #7: Joan Looney, Talking Rock, GA

How do you mix artwork in a room, if the style is totally different?
