Silhouettes
I've always been drawn to silhouettes especially grouped in ornate or unique frames. They can be custom-made several different ways, using tracing paper, on a computer program, cut out from paper, or painted. I've seen them done on color construction paper and patterned fabric. It's a great way to display family members, pets, or favorite places. Here are a few of my favorites:
This is from well known silhouette and master scissor artist Karl Johnson who cuts the silhouettes entirely by hand. Karl has created silhouettes for many celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lopez, Drew Barrymore and more. His work has appeared in over 30 national publications including "The O List" in O Magazine, People, In Style, Martha Stewart Wedding, Parents, Elegant Bride, Country Home, Country Living and many others.
You can be really creative with the use of color as shown above or do the opposite of the classic black on white as shown here by Design Sponge.
You don't have to stick to the "norm"
How about a holiday silhouette pillow via Tobi Fairley Home?
I love this display of trophies and china in blue and white featured in Better Homes and Gardens
or this sweet silhouette of a daddy and daughter.
Speaking of unique.........
This is an amazing silhouette (apartment therapy) that tells a story within the design of the dress. What a beautiful wedding gift this would be to give to your daughter depicting her childhood story.
As you can see, not only do I love the design aspect of the silhouette, but also the nostalgia you feel that brings you back in time. A perfect way design can celebrate your life!!
