One Room Challenge - Week 7

We are getting down to the wire and making great progress on the renovation of our Podcast Studio. This week we’re going to tell you how we incorporated our “logo” into the space and how we solved the problem of covering up all of our fabrics, rug samples, wood finishes and several other samples we need when sourcing for our projects. As much as we try to keep things organized, these things are not an attractive backdrop!

Not only did we need to keep these samples “out of sight”, we wanted good sound absorption when recording our podcast. As we’ve mentioned many times, sound quality is sooo important to us!

Thanks to the great team at Produce Your Podcast for making our sound quality amazing and for their turnkey production service. If you are thinking of starting a podcast, we highly recommend them. You can set up a free 30 minute call to get more information!

When selecting fabric, remember our goal was to incorporate our brand colors, navy, blush pink and chartreuse. We decided to go with navy blue for this portion of the project. Thank you to our sponsors Fabricut and Calico Corners for the fabrics below.

This gorgeous patterned fabric is called Stencil Nouveau in Cobalt from Fabricut from the Artfully Modern collection. We loved the blue hues and the playful nature of the pattern! Fabricut is one of the largest distributors of decorative fabrics in the world. They have been in business for 60 years and offer traditional, transitional and contemporary styles. They also offer trimmings, decorative drapery hardware and wall coverings.

This striped fabric is from Calico Corners and is called Hotaru 50 Indigo. Calico Corners offers a choice of 10,000 luxurious fabrics! They have experienced designers who can help turn those fabrics into amazing furniture, window treatments and more. Click here to find a design shop in your area!

A big thank you to our drapery workroom Tracie Bresnahan of Custom Creations for fabricating the 2.5 widths of pleated, lined drapery panels, machine hemmed and lined that are ceiling mounted on a track. Included were four batons for easy sliding of the panels and access to our samples from the left, right and center of the wall.

Tracie also made a pair of 1.5 width stationary pleated drapery panels, machine hemmed, lined and interlined on a Helser Brothers drapery rod for the window.

Custom Creations is an award winning full service drapery workroom servicing direct to the trade. Their experience includes apparel and textile engineering and hand tailoring. They offer architectural engineering, construction and upholstery of small custom furniture pieces such as ottomans, benches, wall boards, doors, cornice boards, headboards and other “out of the box” designs. Their seamstress professionals are experienced in many high end techniques, including English hand sewing and other dressmaker details. As you can see, they are not your “ordinary” workroom, they make us look so good (and we have a ton of fun at installs)!!

The challenge we had with running the track along the entire width of the ceiling was that the crown molding was in the way of allowing the drapery panel to go all the way to the wall. No problem for our installers at Hangman Installations! They are the best troubleshooters and always find great solutions. See the photo below to see how they handled this one. We saved the cut out pieces so they could be put back if need be.

Now we have the panels on the left and right side that meet in the middle, each with a wand to slide them back and forth - functional and beautiful!

The next order of business was to display our “podcast logo”. After some research on wall logos, we decided to go with Sticker You. Their custom wall decals come in a variety of materials and are printed with quality inks that highlight the vibrancy of any image or logo. The logo wall decals can be made into any size or shape, meaning even the most intricately shaped logs can be easily made to fit on any wall. They come with removable adhesive which means they won’t damage your wall or peel off any paint or coatings when they’re taken off. Click here for a quick video on how to apply the decal to your wall!

One of our goals is to eventually “video” our podcast episodes. As much as the popularity of podcasts is rising, there are still a number of people who don’t listen to them. Here are some interesting statistics in regard to podcasts:

  1. As of June 2020 there are over 1,000,000 podcasts and 29 million episodes.

  2. 50% of all US homes are podcast fans.

  3. 55% (155 million) of the US population has listened to a podcast.

  4. 37% (104 million) listen to podcasts at least every month.

  5. Forecasts suggest that the number of podcast listeners will surpass 160 million in 2023 after an increase of around 20 million each year.

So for those of you who haven’t gotten on the podcast bandwagon, be on the lookout for us on video.

Follow along for the final blog and reveal on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 where we will recap the project details and publish all the professional photos taken by Catmax Photography!
