Designer Spotlight: Liz Carroll Interiors
Don’t get me wrong, we LOVE sharing all of our crazy endeavors with you, but we thought it might be time to share the limelight with some of our favorite designer peeps. We’ve interviewed a few of our designer friends and we will be sharing their most unique projects and designer hints over the next few weeks!Up first is our dear friend Liz Carroll of Liz Carroll Interiors in Wilmington, North Carolina. She is a wife, mother, and an AMAZING designer. Her designs are always stylish and chic with a touch of whimsy.
She was sweet enough to share one of her favorite projects with us, an adorable children’s playroom perfect for a little princess! Let’s be honest- I’m totally jealous- I want this room!K&K: Why did you feature this particular project? LC: The thing I love about this project is it shows how taking a risk and trying something new can really pay off. When I brought the idea of a playroom stage to my client I hoped she wouldn’t look at me like I’m crazy! She and I have a great relationship, so she trusted me and was excited about building the stage. We both loved the fabrics and the idea of doing something exciting and new, plus we knew it would be so fun for her kids! It is such a fun space for her three children and totally unique!
K&K: What is the one thing you love most about being a designer?LC: I love the relationships I build with clients. It’s such a privilege to be asked to help families design their home. Design is a personal process and I love getting to know clients and helping them through the process.K&K: Who is a designer(s) that inspires you?LC: There are so many I love for so many different reasons! Benjamin Dhong and Ruthie Sommers are two I especially love right now.
K&K: If you could design any room, with no budget constraints, what room would it be? Give us a brief description.LC: Oh….fun question! Definitely a pool house! Can I do a mini-house instead of a room!? It would have doors and windows that are open all the time for a real indoor-outdoor feeling. Comfortable upholstery to lounge on and a fabulous kitchen for outdoor entertaining are a must. It would have all the conveniences of a house, but a smaller version perfect for get-togethers, guests or just sneaking away from the main house. And if we are not worried about budget, I’d go all out on my kitchen selections! And of course, a little bedroom for afternoon naps with the most comfortable bedding you have ever slept in! K&K: What is something you could tell us about yourself that would surprise us? LC: I have a Black Belt…in Six Sigma. In a previous life, I was a Process Design Engineer for a Fortune 5 company where I earned my Black Belt certification. Six Sigma is a process improvement methodology and although it’s typically used in manufacturing, I actually use a lot of the tools in my Interior Design business.
