High Point Market April 2015!!
It's that time of year again to see what is happening in High Point April 2015! The excitement and energy is everywhere, thanks to the High Point Market Authority who is the official sponsor and organizer of the High Point Market. It was created in 2001 to represent all Market constituents, including exhibitors, building owners and retailers. The Market Authority promotes the Market and runs the event every April and October.
Aside from inspiration, finding new resources and sourcing for our clients, there are numerous educational events and social activities. Here are just a few:

One of our favorite events is "Stars under the Stars". Previous markets included KC and the Sunshine Band, Billy Ocean, Little River Band, The Temptations, JoDee Messina, The Beach Boys and Rick Springfield. This April Taylor Dayne and Christopher Cross will take the stage.
They set up a huge tent in front of Showplace and everybody relaxes and has so much fun!!
Another great event sponsored by the High Point Market Authority is the Style Spotters Program. What exactly is a style spotter? Style spotters are trend setters that see ahead of the curve in home fashion trends. They will navigate the show and capture images of their favorite products. They will then pin those photos to Pinterest boards and will list the exhibitor's name and showroom number. They present the exhibitor with a sign that highlights the Style Spotter's name with a QR code and URL for the Pinterest board.
Our 2015 Style Spotters Look Forward to Spring Market
Home fashion experts offer their first take on the styles of spring, 2015
As we head into the waning weeks of winter, our attention turns to the arrival of spring. For many of us, the new season means a welcome turn toward warmer weather, and for all of us, spring brings new fashions, styles, and trends - and they’ll all be waiting for us at Spring Market. To get in the right frame of mind for the event of the new season, we asked our 2015 Style Spotters to tell us what they’ll be looking for when they arrive in High Point on April 18. So sit back, relax, forget the lower temps and shorter days - let’s start thinking spring!
Arianne Bellizaire, Inspired to Style
As an interior decorator and blogger (but more importantly a lover of good design), I love spaces with bright, bold colors and interesting pattern combinations. I’m expecting to see lots of both at this Market, but I’ve noticed a growing trend toward more subtle spaces done in black, white and gold color palettes. It’ll be interesting to see how this trend is represented at Market. To me, High Point Market is a bit like Disney World! There’s so much to see and never enough time, so I’ve learned that having a plan for who and what you want to see is the best way to maximize your time.
“Having a plan … is the best way to maximize your time.”- Arianne Bellizaire, Inspired to Style

I’m inspired by my travels, and those inspirations are reflected in my design work. While hiking in Mexico, I saw beautiful, repetitive patterns in the Mayan ruins. In India, the vibrant colors captivated me; in Indonesia, the craftsmanship that went into the hand-carved exotic woods spoke to me, and in Israel, the gold leaf and precious stone inlays compelled me to seek more. So at Market, I’ll be excited to see how designers and manufacturers are incorporating these influences in products today.
“I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more navy and green.”- Kati Curtis, Kati Curtis Design
Beth Dotolo, RID, ASID, NCIDQ, Pulp Design Studios
High Point Market has become an incredibly important event for my interior design firm, Pulp Design Studios. When my partner, Carolina Gentry, and I began attending years ago we quickly realized that Market was a one-stop-shop that provided us with not only unlimited design inspiration and a first look at new trends, but also unparalleled networking opportunities and vendor exposure, which we’ve been able to utilize to grow our business. This year, I’m incredibly honored to be participating in a larger capacity as a Style Spotter.
“Perhaps the thing I look forward to most is being able to have a tangible experience of these amazing new products and trends.”- Beth Dotolo, Pulp Design Studios
Lori Gilder, Interior Makeovers Inc.
It truly is a thrill being a part of the 2015 Style Spotters team. This will be my third trip to Market and while I’m looking forward to the treasure trove of sources I find in venues like Market Square and Interhall, this year I’m also excited to scour the outlying showrooms and Antiques and Design Center for those one of a kind finds!
“I’m hoping to see more mid century modern influences … with a twist.”- Lori Gilder, Interior Makeovers Inc.
Patti Johnson, IDS, DSID, Patti Johnson Interiors
In addition to the fantastic color and inspiring designs that designers get so excited to see at Spring Market, I will be hunting the unique customizable upholstery, custom case good pieces and one of a kind items that really make a home personal for my clients. Lead times are also very important to both my business and to my clients.
“I’m always ‘Style-spotting’ to find great new resources.”- Patti Johnson, Patti Johnson Interiors
Courtney Lake, Monogram Décor
What I am looking for as a High Point Market Style Spotter is innovation and creativity with a modern touch. My eye is always drawn to pieces that have a bit of “quirk” to them. An interesting application of veneer or a fun drawer detail are all signs that the manufacturer was not just thinking about practicality. Whether it’s the hinges on a case good or the stitching on the seams of a sofa, these are the type of things that get my blood pumping.
“Expect to find me digging for the hidden gems.”- Courtney Lake, Monogram DécorI want to see what the ladies of Taylor Burke have in store for Market. I met them at their first Market and was immediately impressed by their product and the agility to which it could be morphed to fit a client’s needs.
I will also be searching out what new things are coming from California-based company SkLO. I had the pleasure of working with them on a model home and was smitten with their innovative approach to glass. I love finding art and accessories that are not only beautiful but have a purpose.
So, this Market, expect to find me digging for the hidden gems that make me coo, clap and do a happy jig. And yes, I do dance when I get excited ….
Jonathan Legate, Jonathan Legate Interior Consultation
I love spring! It is a time of rebirth when everything is new and vibrant: it’s a breath of fresh air. Even the familiar has a sparkle - it has grown, evolved and become new again. Just like the season, Spring High Point Market is filled with the new and familiar shining in a fresh, bright light.
“Keeping a finger on the pulse of design is crucial.”- Jonathan Legate, Jonathan Legate Interior Consultation As a designer with a reputation for mixing the new with the familiar in both traditional and contemporary settings, keeping a finger on the pulse of design is crucial to my work. This year, personally and professionally, I am focusing on many things including:Naturals / OrganicsFrom the materials and processes used to manufacture items to pattern references in art and fabrics, items that reference and respect the earth they come from. Exotic marbles, driftwood, clay, semi precious stone and shell. Linen, cotton and wools, natural vegetable dyes, soothing colors. Earthy tones with vibrant pops. Worldly.Pure ClassicsArt and artifacts from the 19th to mid 20th centuries. 50’s, 60’s, 70’s fabulous lighting and furniture, strong lines that give way to sensuous curves. Gracious Living. Timeless Design. Family Traditions. Those have always been the guiding principles behind my life, my interior design work here in Midland, Texas, and the information I share with my blog's readers on Hadley Court.
“I'll .. be looking to spot ... products ... that represent the quality workmanship I value today.. which also have the style attributes I believe will represent tomorrow's timeless designs.”- Leslie Hendrix Wood, Hadley Court As a 2015 Style Spotter, I'll be looking at the beautiful new introductions from my go-to resources like Bernhardt Furniture, Jonathan Charles Furniture, Century Furniture and Gabby Decor. After that, I'll also be looking to spot new products plus antique resources that represent the quality workmanship I value as an interior designer today, which also have the style attributes I believe will represent tomorrow's timeless designs for America's luxury furniture collectors and connoisseurs. One other event we don't want to miss is the Junior League of High Point Designer Showhouse.
The 2015 Showhouse, a circa-1912 Tudor Revival home, will feature both local and national designers and will celebrate the theme “From High Point to the World.” Each designer will draw inspiration from the history of the Terry property and the furniture-rich history of High Point. The home’s transformation will create a modern, livable space in a historic home.
It will run from Saturday April 18 - Sunday April 26, 2015 and Friday May 1 - Sunday May 3, 2015 from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm daily.
Read my friend Lisa Mende's blog for a great story about the house!
